Late last month, Apple announced a surprise event scheduled for December 3 where the invite read that they will gather to honour apps and games. Now, there were some speculations that this could be a product launch but most of the predictions were about this being a new unique. And it has turned out to be a unique event where Apple awarded the best apps and games for iPhones, iPad and Mac of the year. Since this was the first iteration of Apple awards, the excitement was higher and the company decided to have a press event for the same.

All the winners were revealed during this event and demos were also given to the press as per this report from CNBC. Also, Apple revealed their thinking behind awarding the awards so that people get why the particular apps won and others didn’t. Talking about the App Store awards, we will first talk about all the different apps that got the awards in the iPhone category which included productivity apps as well as games. For the best iPhone app of the year, Spectre Camera got this award which is an app that takes advantage of the iPhone camera in ways more than even Apple.

As for the best iPhone game of the year, the award went to Sky: Children of the Light which is free to download but there is a yearly pass of $14.99 where you get some benefits. As for Apple Arcade game of the year, Apple awarded this to the game named Sayonara Wild Hearts which it also showcased at the launch of Apple Arcade back in September. For the best productivity app of the year in iPad category, the award went to Flow by Moleskine which is a drawing tool taking advantage of the iPad and Apple Pencil. The app is free for 7 days after which you have to pay $1.99/month.
